I finally cast on for a new Christmas present - mittens for my mother. I was contemplating gloves, which might be more useful (for driving, etc.) but mittens just seem more fun. A little whimsical, I guess. The yarn is Cascade 220 in a deep purple, held together with a strand of Crystal Palace Fizz for the cuffs. I'm following the Basic Mittens pattern from Vogue Knitting Mittens and Gloves, which are knitted flat and then seamed up. Here's what they look like right now:
Since my parents are coming to town later this week and I won't be knitting the mittens in front of my mom, I re-cast on for the baby raglan from Debbie Bliss' The Baby Knits Book. The last one I started was way too tiny. The size on this one is much better. I also switched the main color from teal to this grayish blue, still in the Rowan Calmer. Oh, I love that yarn!

Those almost make me wish it got cold enough here for mittens. ;)

Hey, I just found your blog and I LOVE your baby stuff. I've recently gotten myself on a baby sweater kick even though I have no kids and I'm not planning any for a while! I don't know what it is about baby sweaters... they're so fulfilling! QUICK! EASY! CUTE! You can't lose. I'm worried I'll have trouble going back to Big People apparel!!!
Isn't that Debbie Bliss baby book great??? I've made the raglan twice (it's great with rowan all-seasons too) but my favorite pattern from that book is the cabled cardi. it's adorable in any color.
