Yes, Xavier is home and he's the sweetest baby I've ever met. He exudes this serene peacefulness that is absolutely addictive. We are truly blessed to have had such a relaxing babymoon. He's doing really well - we're getting the hang of nursing and he gained three ounces in his first three days home. So phooey on those NICU nurses who were convinced that we would be back there with a dehydrated baby due to my persistence in nursing him instead of giving him bottles. Every time Xavier latches well (and we are talking about 10 times a day!) I give us both a silent cheer for successful perserverence. :)
No pictures at the moment - our internet connection has been wonky and uploading photos is impossible, as checking e-mail is now taking hours on a good day. We are working on fixing the problem, lest all my family members decide to jump on a plane from the left coast to the right coast instead of wait on more internet photos. To everyone who has left such sweet comments, I apologize for the non-response and (fingers crossed) we will be up and running smoothly again soon.
But some really good knitting news - my hands and arms are pretty much back to normal after all the pregnancy swelling and nerve problems. I should be clicking away regularly by this week. So, how hard is it to nurse and knit at the same time?!?
I'm so glad Xavier's home and you are both doing well! As for knitting and nursing, Karl was always a very wiggly fellow, so I didn't do it too often. I HAVE knit over his head while he was napping, as someone previously mentioned.

Try knitting little things....... :-) I'll be trying socks this time around. With my little girl, I read a lot and managed to do some crocheting. We'll see how it goes but I'm determined to try. :-)

Jen
So glad Xavier is home. Way to go on the nursing! You go mamma!!! I could knit and nurse DD until she got to the nosey stage.. Some days I would nurse her to sleep in the sling and then stand and knit while I swayed to keep her asleep :)
Many hugs to you both!

I just recently found your blog, and am enjoying reading it. I'm glad you guys are home and he's doing well. I will continue to hope for success so you can show those nurses you guys mean business

Congrats on getting home and double-congrats on showing those nurses what's what! You deserve major kudos for persevering in the face of such naysayers. May you and Xavier have a long and strong nursing relationship together.
(Thorn - fellow knitter, and breastfeeding mom of 17-month-old twins; I never figured out nursing and knitting, but my kids really got into napping on my lap, and so I got good at knitting over their heads. Lots of hats!)

Continued success!! It's all such great news, Jen! You remind me of my sis -- she's so in love with Mack, too. Sometimes when she calls me on the phone, she doesn't even say "hello," she just starts in telling me how beautiful her little baby is and how sweet and good and he's the best there is. I'm so glad you all feel that way!!

Ok - so you have to let me know if you can figure out how to knit and nurse. I haven't figured it out. Glad to hear that X is home and you are doing well.

Congratulations on being back home! You can tell by his photos that Xavier is a serene little fellow --- may he bring this same peace and joy to your house always.
With my second child, I found I could nurse and do lots of things simultaneously. Knitting, though, may pose special difficulties. Best of luck with the effort, though!
